The Laikipia West Deputy County Commissioner Hezron Nyamberi has threatened to shut down the busy Rumuruti livestock market for lack of toilets and water.

He said it was wrong for the county government to allow use of the market without sanitation facilities and piped water. They (County) should do something or we shut the market,” The DCC said.

Traders decried the poor state of the market which earns the county millions in revenue.

Marine Ole Kamoyo a trader from Narok said they had troublle getting toilets since the County government did not factor the amenities.

The animal owners and buyers are forced to seek water for animals from the nearest river that is almost two kilometres away.
