Five people who are believed to have come into close contact with the person who tested positive in Murang'a County have been put in isolation.

County executive officer for health Joseph Mbai said the victim a 22 years old man was picked by health officers from his house and taken to Nairobi for further treatment.

He said the man had come to Murang’a town few weeks ago and he was hunting for a job in one of the hotels.

It being a requirement to have employees in hospitality sector be tested, his results came out positive.

Mbai however said the victim had not exhibited any signs of the disease and was going on with his usual duties.

"He gave out the names of people he was in close contact with, we managed to get them and they are under observation" he said.

Mbai said the house in which the man was living will be fumigated and all the occupants will be tested for corona virus.

The officer has now urged the residents to be extra careful and observe the safety guidelines given by the government to keep the virus at bay.

"People have too be careful because the disease is spreading very fast and if we don't take caution we shall have more cases" he said.

Mbai however ured the locals not to panic and focus on protecting themselves.

"We have buried five people so far who have died of the disease and this is not a good trend" he remarked.

He also said there are four other people who are in isolation and their samples have been taken awaiting the results.

Mbai said the biggest challenge is having to send the samples to Nairobi because the results are taking 48 hours to be relayed back.
