Nairobi City Stars, aka Simba wa Nairobi, seems poised to achieve great things in the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League going by their performance in the relatively new 2020/21 season.

Before the league began, the team’s Chief Executive Officer Patrick Korir said their benchmark was to wind up at least in the top five.

“The players need to work harder to get more positive results and at this rate, challenging for the title is not too much to ask,” said Korir.

City Stars trainer Nicholas Muyoti has led the team to five matches without defeat, statistics which have been received well by the club faithful. After tasting  defeat on September 26 in a 3-1 whacking by Sofapaka in their season opener,  the club made a strong statement of intent last Saturday when they hammered basement team Vihiga Bullets 4-0 which was easily the highest scoring margin of the weekend.

Following the result, City Stars, who are punching above their weight, are placed third in the standings with 13 points from six matches played behind Kariobangi Sharks with a similar number of points but with a superior goal aggregate.

As Simba wa Nairobi were roaring loudly, Tusker FC produced yet another poor result which left fans casting doubts on their ability to beat Tunisian giants AS Sfaxien in the preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup.

Tusker’s 3-0 loss at the hands of Kariobangi Sharks was no doubt too bitter a pill to swallow for the team that is gunning for a second consecutive league title.

In the meantime, AFC Leopards and Tusker are going through a torrid period which has left their fans a disenchanted lot.

Leopards suffered a 1-0 defeat to Sofapaka, which was their third in a row and, already, there are murmurs of discontentment from the fans over the ability of the technical team to redeem the team that is currently in an odd 15th position.

And despite drawing 1-1 with newly-promoted Kenya Police, Gor Mahia continued clinging to the top spot with 14 points.
