A section of local football stakeholders led by former Football Kenya Federation (FKF) president Sam Nyamweya, yesterday sent resolutions of a national football convention held last weekend in Nairobi, to world football governing body Fifa Secretary General Fatma Samoura.

The letter that has also been copied to Confederation of African Football (CAF) president Ahmed Ahmad, Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed, Sports Principal Secretary Joe Okudo and Sports Registrar Rose Wasike, has highlighted four key areas that were discussed in the convention, with the main resolution being the registration of a new federation to ensure inclusivity if the current office bearers maintain their position of non compliance with the Sports Act 2013.

Other issues highlighted in the letter to Fifa were the dire situation of Kenyan Premier League, Kenya Football Referees Association (KFRA) and Sports Act 2013 that was revised in 2019.

At the convention, they also vowed to go ahead and form a new federation if FKF continues to block grassroots clubs from participating in the electoral process and discriminating or excluding candidates from participating in the exercise.

“Kenya Football Federation has never been deregistered, it is still available and we will revive it to run our own leagues and take the sport to the next level if FKF continues unabated with its abrasive stance, non-inclusivity, and insensitive conduct of the electoral process,” said Nyamweya.

He added: “We are just waiting for the March 17 ruling by the Sports Disputes Tribunal and if they deny us justice by not allowing sub-branches to take part in the polls, then we will revive KFF the following day and start our operations.”

Their move comes on the same day when the FKF Electoral Board published the final list of candidates to take part in the county elections, National Executive Council (NEC) level and the presidential positions.

In the branch elections which will this time round be referred to as county polls, 37 out 45 candidates seeking the chairman’s position have no opposition.

Only three counties, Mandera, Samburu and Lamu will not take part in the polls because they do not have active football activities in the last three years. Only Garisa, Nyeri, Kwale, Nairobi West, Kisii, Nyamira and Kisumu will have contests for the top position.

In Garisa, Abdullahi Salat Omar will be challenging Yussuf Mohammed, while Yussuf Ngotho will be contesting against Chrispine Okello in Nyeri and Salima Bambaulo will battle it out against Hamisi Mwakoja in Kwale.

In Nairobi West the race is between Caleb Malweyi and Charles Njoroge.
