Former MP charged with stealing title deed

Former Laikipia East MP Anthony Mutahi was yesterday arraigned in a Nairobi court charged with stealing a title deed for land worth over Sh18.5 million.

The former legislator who appeared before Milimani Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku faces other counts of uttering a false document, obtaining land registration by false pretences and conspiracy to defraud.

Mutuku  ordered him to be released on a Sh1 million bond or a cash bail of Sh300,000 pending the mention of the case on January 28.

The prosecution alleges that on August 5, 2016 at the Ministry of Lands headquarters in Nairobi county, Mutahi stole a title deed  for LR10422/13 Nanyuki township valued at Sh18.5 million the property of George Odinga Oraro and David Morton Silverstein and the Estate of the late Livia Lepoer Trench.

Mutahi is accused of knowingly and fraudulently making a sale agreement for the same parcel of land purporting to be genuine validly drawn by Mwangi Kariuki Advocates.

The former MP is also charged that on February 5, 2020 at the Environmental and Land Court in Nyeri High Court, he willfully and unlawfully uttered a sale agreement for the same land in Nanyuki township to Silas Kimeli, the deputy registrar ELC High Court Nyeri.
