Jane Muthoni, the wife of murdered Kiiru Boys High School Principal Solomon Mwangi Mbuthi has been found guilty of murder by a Nakuru court.

Muthoni who spent more than five years in remand stood accused for the murder of her own husband together with her co-accused, Isaac Ng'ang'a alias Gikuyu.

Justice Joel Ngugi who presided over the case said the two will be sentenced on May 18.

According to the prosecution, Muthoni hired four people to eliminate her husband after she suspected him of having extra-marital affairs.

Court documents state that the Kiiru Boys Secondary School principal went missing on November 6, 2016 only for his mutilated body to be found dumped at Karakuta Coffee Estate in Juja.

While pleading not guilty to murder, Muthoni distanced herself from the murder case insisting it was her husbands associates, fellow principals, who killed Mbuthi over alleged school transfers deal gone sour.

Muthoni told the court there was a cartel of principals who decide which teachers get promotions and transfers. She claimed the cabal of principals were disgruntled after Muthoni was promoted to head Icaciri Secondary as her husband headed Kiiru High School.

According to Muthoni, the principals had asked for Ksh 1 million from the deceased, money Mbuthi didn’t pay out and which led to his killing.
