Former Stars coach threatens to seek Fifa’s intervention if not paid dues
Former Harambee Stars head coach Sebastien Migne says he will head to Fifa to seek their intervention if Football Kenya Federation (FKF) does not settle his pay by August .
Migne took over from Paul Put in May 2018 and was charged with taking Kenya to the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) in 2019 and the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) which was set for April 2020 but has since been suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
While he delivered Kenya to last year’s Afcon, the Frenchman was dismissed just a week after Kenya was bundled out of the CHAN qualifiers by Tanzania after losing 4-1 on post-match penalties after both legs had ended in a barren draw.
It was, in August, during his post-match interview after the defeat by Tanzania that Migne dared the federation to sack him as he had a contract that was set to expire in May next year.
At the time, he argued that paying his salary had become an issue and wondered if FKF would be able to pay out his contract.
“I am yet to be paid. I have given the federation time to make things straight but if I do not get my payment by the end of this summer, I will then head to Fifa to seek their intervention on the matter,” said Migne in an interview with local television station Switch on Saturday.
Migne was said to be earning a monthly salary of Sh1.5 million and it was claimed that sacking him would see FKF fork out Sh50 million in compensation.
While the federation has never revealed the financial figures, the two parties agreed to a payment formula that will see the tactician’s dues settled in bits.
Migne’s sentiments on his payment come at a time when FKF are in the middle of another battle with former tacticians Adel Amrouche and Bobby Williamson who are owed Sh109 million and Sh55 million in compensation respectively.
Late last month, Amrouche agreed to wait longer for the settlement after an initial extension for payment deadline was extended further upon request by FKF who are reported to have sighted the current Covid-19 as the reason for the delay while Williamson, who won a case in a Kenyan court, has been lamenting about non-payment of his dues.
