At least four people died in a grisly accident along Ngong Road after a vehicle they were traveling in plunged into a railway track near Dagoretti in Nairobi County.

Nairobi Deputy Police commander James Mugera said the deceased were two Kenyans and two Canadians adding that two of the passengers were also seriously injured and were admitted in hospital.

Police said the ill-fated vehicle was coming from the Karen direction to the city centre when the driver lost control of it.

It had six occupants, three men and three women and it hit a roadside wall before plunging into the track almost five meters down.

The incident caused a huge traffic jam on the busy road as officials tried to rescue those trapped in the car for almost three hours. Mugera said officials are investigating the incident and that the scene was cleared later in the afternoon.

Locals asked authorities to rectify bollard at the scene, which they claimed are a death trap to motorists using the road.

It took over three hours to crane and tow the vehicle from the scene, causing big traffic jam along the busy Ngong Road.

Motorists yesterday complained about the bad state of the road and faulted the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) for not erecting relevant road signs along the stretch between Junction Mall to Lenana.

In November last year, following complaints by the road users, the government moved to fix a section of the road that had caused a number of vehicle accidents.

The road lacked proper road signs to show the two U-turns, putting the lives of the users at risk.

Three people died yesterday morning after a shuttle they were travelling in during curfew hours plunged into one of the homesteads in Rianyandoro village, Nyamira county.

The 2am accident along the Keroka Sotik road involved a Kilgoris Classic Toyota matatu, which veered off the road and hit one of the rental houses constructed approximately 10 meters from the road.

Since January, more than 60 people have died on Kenyan roads. This statistic indicates a gruesome trend till the end of the year. In 2021, more than 4,000 people lost their lives.
