‘Garbage in garbage out’ -Speaker Muturi blames voters for electing unruly MPs
National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi has distanced himself from what happened in parliament on Wednesday where legislators were engaged in fistfights while debating on the controversial Political Parties Amendment Bill 2021.
Muturi, while responding to Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina on Twitter, said voters were to be blamed for electing ill-mannered leaders.
Ledama wrote: "We have reduced parliament into a Shithole! @SpeakerJBMuturi what are standing orders in the National Assembly for? There was nothing honorable about Parliament and all those present yesterday. I am sorry Kenyans."
Muturi responded: "The voters get as good as they vote in. Garbage in garbage out. Don’t blame me."
Elkeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen however appeared to be defending parliamentarians saying they are the ones who elected the Speaker who should guide them.
He wrote: "Did the garbage also elect a Speaker they deserve?"
National Assembly Minority Leader John Mbadì and Soin-Sigowet MP Benard Koros fought in Parliament on Wednesday during voting on the Political Parties (Amendment) Bill 2021.
Mbadi was bitten in the finger by Koros and he responded by punching him in the face.
As a result, Mbadi was banned from accessing parliament for five days by the day's presiding speaker.
