George Natembeya declares interest in Trans Nzoia gubernatorial seat
Rift Valley Regional coordinator George Natembeya has declared his interest in the Trans Nzoia gubernatorial seat come 2022 general elections.
According to Natembeya, it is within his rights to run for an elective post as he seeks to serve the Trans Nzoia electorate as their next governor.
In an interview with a local television station, Natembeya however did not reveal the political party that he will use next year on his plot to succeed governor Patrick Khaemba.
“I want to be the governor of Trans Nzoia County in 2022. It is within my rights to seek an elective post,” Natembeya said.
Natembeya now joins Kakai Bisau and Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa in the race for the County chief, as incumbent Patrick Khaemba is set to exit the scene after serving the maximum two terms in 2022.
The outspoken Natembeya also took the opportunity to highlight steps the government has taken to ensure the Laikipia security operation is a success, saying the government will not repeat the same mistake twice.
In the recent past, Laikipia has seen an upsurge in bandit attacks, with the most recent taking place on the night of Wednesday, September 8.
There have been perennial conflicts between pastoralists and ranchers in Laikipia County.
The clashes have left a trail of death and destruction of property in the area.
While visiting the area in July, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i blamed the herders for violent clashes with local farmers and owners of ranches and conservancies.
However, normalcy has since prevailed in the unpredictable Ol- Moran within the Laikipia Conservancy, with schools reopening albeit under tight security.
