Defending Champions Tusker FC will be out to fix their poor start in the season today against newcomers FC Talanta at Ruaraka Stadium after being bundled out of the CAF Champions League preliminary stage.

The Brewers lost their opening league encounter 1-0 to AFC Leopards a month ago and as it stands, they are bottom of the standings with zero points off one match played.

Robert Matano’s charges are yet to win any competitive match this season apart from the Super Cup before the new season kicked off despite signing 16 new players and dropping 11 in the off-season.

Being only their second match of the domestic campaign, a lot of eyes are on the big spenders with newbies Talanta who are ninth expected to push the 12-time league champions.

Ken Kenyatta’s men have won once and drawn twice in the top tier this campaign and conceded only twice against four scored and their resolute defending that might cause some headache for Matano’s charges.

However, Tusker have a lethal trident consisting of national team star Boniface Muchiri, former Kakamega Homeboyz winger Shami Kibwana and new Tanzanian import Ibrahim Yusuf for the newbies to contend with.

Talanta on the other hand will be looking at Brian Yakhama and Anthony Guchu to pull the strings in their fourth match of the campaign.

Six points

Meanwhile, 19-time champions Gor Mahia are on form having won all three competitive competitions this season and face a mighty task against fourth-placed Kariobangi Sharks in a lunchtime kickoff today at Kasarani Stadium.

K’Ogalo won their first two matches against KCB FC and AFC Leopards to pick up six points in two games, with two matches at hand.

Last Wednesday’s 1-0 win over arch-rivals Leopards was a catalyst for the team that alongside Tusker FC are slated to begin their CAF Confederations Cup Group Stage Qualifiers next month.

Gor have conceded only twice and scored six goals in all competitions.

They have also made considerable signings this season with all eyes on the red-hot Benson Omalla, Peter Lwasa, formerly of the Slum Boys, former Wazito winger Boniface Omondi, and former Leopards pair of Austin Odhiambo and Yusuf Mainge.
