Gor Mahia’s huge fan base in Kisumu can’t help but savour the opportunity of being reunited with the Green Army when their team takes on Ulinzi Stars in a Kenya Premier League fixture at Moi Stadium today.

Sports Kenya have banned K’ogalo from Kasarani until further notice following the skirmishes that visited their abandoned match against Vihiga Bullets at the facility on February 12.

A section of unruly fans suspected to belong to Gor, who will henceforth be playing their home games in Kisumu, stormed the pitch and attacked Vihiga players in the melee that left at least two people injured.

Waywardness aside, Gor’s match against Ulinzi, which is one of the seven lined up in a busy weekend, should keep the action-starved fans in the lakeside city on the edge of their seats.

But it is Ulinzi who will be under pressure to improve on their inferior head to head statistics with Gor.

From the two teams’ last five meetings, Gor has beaten Ulinzi twice, lost once with two matches ending in draws.

However, Ulinzi coach Benjamin Nyangweso reckons that Sirkal’s positive statistics may not count, nor is their ‘homeground advantage’.

“We are ready and looking forward to the game. I have instructed the players to avoid fear but do the right things on the pitch which will help us bring Gor down. Of course, we do not expect an easy match but believe me we can get something from the match,” observed Nyangweso.

Last weekend, Ugandan Peter Lwasa was the toast of Gor with his strike in a 1-1 draw with Bandari and he alongside Samuel Onyango and Congolese Sando Yangayay are some of the players’ coach Andrea Spiers will entrust to do the job.

For Ulinzi, their trump cards include Oscar Wamalwa, Clinton Omondi and Masita Masuta.

In the meantime, another potentially explosive tie will pit AFC Leopards and Bandari at Nyayo Stadium.

Last week, Bandari disappointed their fans in an uninspiring draw against Gor at Mbaraki but they have players capable of turning the game on its head including William Wadri and Wilberforce Lugogo.

But then, AFC Leopards would least afford to disappoint their fans, and among the players to watch are Washinton Munene and Peter Thiong’o.

In Ruaraka, Tusker will be lying in wait to try to ‘intoxicate’ Kenya Police in yet another interesting fixture.

Third in the standings, Tusker will be seeking maximum points to keep pressure on Kakamega Homeboyz and Nairobi City Stars who are placed first and second respectively.

And with Kakamega Homeboyz unengaged in the weekend, City Stars will be hoping to beat Bidco in Thika to bridge a two-point gap with Abana Abeingo.
