Government to build a Sh345 million market in Murang’a

Traders from Kangari in Kigumo Murang'a are set to benefit from a multi-million modern market courtesy of the National Government.

According to area Member of Parliament Wangari Mwaniki, Sh345 million has been set aside for the construction of the market which shall benefit hundreds of traders in the area.

The MP said the market will be the biggest in the county and it shall help in reviving the economy of the area.

She said the National Government has already done the tendering processes and the construction work is set to start anytime soon.

Mwaniki said Murang'a being an agricultural productive area, the market shall be of great help to the farmers.

"This will be a mega project by the National Government and it shall help in reviving the economy of this area" she said.

She said the market shall be equipped with refrigeration facilities to aid in the preservation of perishable goods.

"We have several strategies to revive agricultural activities in this area so that the farmers can put the market to optimum use," she added.

She cited that the opening of Kangari-Njabini road shall boost the trading activities in the area between Murang'a and Nyandarua counties.

"Once the road is complete the trading activities are set to increase and in return the locals shall benefit" she said.

Mwaniki who once served as the Chief Executive officer for Export Promotion Council said she shall help the locals in securing market for the produce at the global market.

"Kenya is known to produce the best quality of various products but the challenge has always been low quantity and this is the issue which should be addressed" she said.
