Governor Sonko condoles with the Oliechs

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has visited and condoled with the
family of former Mathare United striker Kevin Oliech Opiyo who
succumbed to cancer three weeks ago in Germany.

Opiyo, the youngest of the Oliech brothers, had been battling the disease for years before losing the battle in mid-August in hospital.

Kevin Opiyo played for several clubs among them Securicor, Nairobi City Stars, Thika, Mathare United, and Tusker and National U20,23 Harambee Stars before moving to Germany for professional stint.

Kevin's remains will land in the country from Frankfurt
Germany on Thursday and he is set to be laid to rest
in Seme, Kisumu County on Saturday.

The County boss further promised to cater for the former
striker’s funeral expenses.

He said Opiyo will be given a befitting send-off in Kisumu.

“The late Kevin who played for Nairobi City Stars,
Mathare United and other teams was a prolific footballer just like his
brothers, Dennis Oliech, Andrew Oyombe and the late Steve Okumu. I
will cater for some of the funeral expenses in order to ensure we give
Kevin a befitting send-off at their rural home in Seme, Kisumu County.
May his soul rest in peace,” he said.

Sonko said his Rescue Team will help to ferry the body to Seme in Kisumu County and he will cater for all expenses needed.

Politician cum DJ Kriss Darlin who has married into the Oliech's family also condoled with them.
