Governor Waiguru misses court in NYS corruption case
Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru on Thursday mid-morning failed to show up in court to testify in Ksh 781 million cases.
The governor was expected to give her testimony against her former Principal Secretary Peter Mangiti, former NYS Director General Nelson Githinji and businessmen and women who engaged NYS in various transactions or deals to supply items at the facility.
The DPP through Senior principal prosecutor Jackson Makori informed Milimani Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi that the governor who was expected to testify on Thursday was not present in court as she was engaged in other official duties.
However, the defence lawyer led by Thomas Rutto vehemently opposed the request to have the matter adjourned and urged the court to order that the matter proceedings tomorrow.
"We strongly opposed the application because the dates were taken by consent as Waiguru was present and well aware of today's dates," Rutto said.
This prompted the Magistrate to adjourn the matter to September 1, 2021.
However, one of the accused persons, former NYS Director General Nelson Githinji was also not present as he is said to be believed.
