As newly elected governors began settling down to work, a number of them have received the backing of other elected leaders as they embarked on measures to meet their election pledges.

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja faces a big task to clear contractor payments pending bills amounting to billions of shillings that have piled over the years. He promised to embark on the payments in the first week.

In Kiambu, a section of newly elected leaders have backed Governor Kimani Wamatangi’s call for unity in the county leadership as he took over as the fourth county chief executive.

Led by MPs Alice Ng’ang’a (Thika Town), Mburu Kahangara (Lari), Gabriel Kagombe (Gatundu South) and Ng’enda ward MCA Joe Kigara, the leaders vowed to work closely with the governor and attain a coordinated approach to service delivery.

In Nyamira, six elected legislators and 20 MCAs have resolved to put their party political coalition alliances and political differences aside by working together with Governor Amos Nyaribo as a team  for the purpose  of effective service delivery to the people of Nyamira county who gave them the mandate. Elsewhere, Kisii Governor Simba Arati has frozen employment and promotions in the county and directed county Secretary, Patrick Lumumba to implement the directive.

“I was shocked when I discovered that the county has a 75-year-old officer who earns Sh0.2 million and yet he is not giving us special services” Arati told the employees at Treasury offices.

In Busia County, the newly inaugurated Governor Paul Otuoma has assured the Iteso community that he will accommodate them in his government without any discrimination whatsoever.

“I have had a good rapport with the Iteso before the baffling revelation by a Bishop in Apokor during a mass sometimes back purporting that I am a man who promotes hatred which to me was a pack of blatant lies,” he said.

Two other newly sworn in governors in the Nyanza region, Dr Ochillo Ayacko, (Migori) and Gladys Wanga, (Homa Bay)  have pledged to do their best to attain comprehensive healthcare reforms.
