Rivalry within Azimio La Umoja camp in Nairobi intensified yesterday after the two factions in the governor’s race traded accusations over corruption.

Speaking after attending a church service in Kibra, Nairobi, the Orange party Secretary General Edwin Sifuna claimed the team allied to Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi brought together untainted, competent and trustworthy politicians, who deserve the opportunity to serve the people. “Our camp consists of clean people who do not have any integrity queries. We are the team that will transform Nairobi. We are telling our people to ignore the other camp since it comprises old people who are full of theatrics but cannot deliver,” said Sifuna.

Sifuna, who is leading the pro-Wanyonyi team, said the Nairobi governorship contest will be a match between the clean team and the one with integrity queries.

Former Dagoretti South MP Dennis Waweru, who is also in Wanyonyi’s camp appealed to the electorate to elect a person of integrity and shun the one who is intent on looting public coffers.

“Some of the people asking for your votes have been mentioned adversely in the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority scandal. They are people who stole money meant for Covid-19. The Nairobi contest is now between clean team and team wakora”, he said.

However, the team allied to businessman Richard Ngatia rubbished the corruption allegations, saying Nairobi needed a new entrant in politics to deliver services to residents.
