Unknown gunmen in two vehicles shot at a man 36 times in broad daylight, in Mihang’o, Utawala on Friday afternoon. He died on the spot.

Mystery surrounding the shooting of Kevin Odhiambo deepened following revelation yesterday that the gunmen not only drove away with a woman who was in company of the deceased but also later raided his brother’s residence and abducted him.

By yesterday evening, his brother identified as Alfred Odhiambo, was yet to be traced. The killing and abduction appeared well planned as reports indicate  the gunmen even smashed the phone of one of the eyewitnesses in Mihango.

Family members said a few hours after Odhiambo was shot dead, the gunmen, believed to be the same, raided the residence of his elder brother in Maji Mazuri area of Mwiki and drove away with him.

Nairobi region police commander James Mugera said they were yet to establish the motive of the attack and the identity of the gunmen.

Unknown woman

The unknown number of gunmen, who were aboard two vehicles, cornered Odhiambo along Gesora Road and shot at him 36 times killing him on the spot. Witnesses told police the incident happened at 1pm and it left a female companion who was with him unharmed and shocked. “The gunmen went close to the eyewitness and took away his phone which was found a few metres from the body of the deceased, having been smashed. The unknown lady was taken away by the suspects before the two vehicles sped off,” police said.

The gunmen later abandoned the woman in Fedha Estate before she found her way back to Utawala.

Police arrived at the scene minutes later and found the victim’s bullet-riddled body near a building under construction on Gesora Road.  It seems the two were lured there before the shooting happened. An examination on the body at the scene confirmed it had multiple gunshot wounds.

At the scene, police recovered 36 spent cartridges, two rounds of live ammunition and five bullet heads. The victim’s body was taken to City Mortuary as investigations continue.

After the shooting, about six heavily armed men, believed to be the same, went to the residence of deceased’s brother where they were captured on a CCTV torturing and harassing Odhiambo. One of the gunmen was heard asking him where he had put the gun.
