As the hunt for Mt Kenya region votes intensifies ahead of the 2022 General Elections, Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi says he is ready to work with ODM leader Raila Odinga.

According to the first-term Governor, his meeting with the ODM leader on Thursday, September 2, aimed at establishing what the former prime has in store for his Meru community.

Governor Kiraitu, in a Facebook post, heaped praise on Raila saying he has good ideas that can change the country if given the opportunity to serve as president,

He at the same time opined that the former prime minister is a front runner in the 2022 General Elections despite the ODM leader maintaining that he is yet to declare whether he will run for the presidency or not.

"Raila Odinga is a front runner. I have known him for the last 40 years. He has great ideas for a radical social-economic transformation of this country. That is why we decided to hear him yesterday (Thursday)," Governor Kiraitu said.

On opposing the ODM leader in the last three consecutive polls, Governor Kiraitu stated that the past is now water under the bridge adding that it is time to focus on what the future holds.

"As I have said before, politics is not about yesterday; that is history.  Politics is about tomorrow. It is not about emotions and personal friendships. It is about interests," he noted.

He also revealed that the Meru community is looking forward to forming its political party.

According to him, the party will be used to negotiate for the interest of the Meru community adding that they will only engage serious Presidential candidates.

"Time has come for us as the Meru Nation to do our calculations and act purely based on our interests. That is why we are forming our party which will give us political visibility and put us on the table to negotiate the best deal in the post-Uhuru political dispensation," Governor Kiraitu added.
