A row is looming in Nandi county after health workers asked a court to compel Governor Stephen Sang’s (pictured) administration to pay them salaries for the eight months they worked during the Covid-19 pandemic period.

The health workers said they have waited for the funds since 2021 and have exploited all avenues and have decided to seek help from the corridors of justice.

Expressed regret

The workers explained how they risked their  lives and worked for the county government  during the pandemic and expressed regret that they had not received payments and accused the devolved unit of not addressing their plight. The Universal Health Care (UHC) workers protested about what they claimed is lack of willingness to pay them their dues despite many attempts to seek audience with the county government administration.

Led by Julius Bitok, the health workers said they had even sought for the intervention of the County Assembly which directed the county government to pay them but this has not been implemented for the past two years.“As UHC workers we have resolved seek justice in courts we have exhausted all other avenues to get our money. The county also ignored calls from the Council of Governors to pay us,” said Bitok.
