Police in Kisumu have arrested three hospital staffs from Rabuor and Nyang'ande sub-county hospitals within Nyando in Kisumu.

The trio were arrested for allegedly being in connection with the stolen mosquito nets that were to be distributed to area residents for free to protect them from contracting Malaria.

According to Kisumu County Police Commander Samuel Anampiu, the stealing report was made by one Teresa Anyango, who is currently in charge of Rabuor Sub-county hospital and Joyce Odhiambo head administrator in the same facility that an unknown number of mosquito net bales which were meant for distribution on prevention of Malaria were missing.

The police boss told People Daily that Paul Masanga who is the Kisumu County Project Coordinator and Lilian Odago head of Malaria program Kisumu County alluded to them that they established that 181 bales were missing from Nyang'ande hospital and 160 bales from Rabuor hospital.

That the total number of bales missing from the twin hospitals are therefore 341 with one bale carrying 50 mosquito nets bringing it to a total number of 17,050 missing nets each going for ksh300.

"After calculations, we have established that the County Government of Kisumu has lost approximately ksh.6,820,000," he said.

He added that following the reports, they were able to arrest three suspects Teresa Anyango acting in-charge of Rabuor hospital, Cynthia Akinyi the in-charge net distribution Nyang'ande area and David Ouma who is in charge of Nyang'ande sub-county hospital.

"Also, to be arrested are Dixon Malit, a health officer from Rabuor who is currently on study leave and Samwel Omino who is suspected to be the mastermind and in connection with Akinyi,"said Anampiu.

The police commander condemned the act and said they have launched investigations to arrest more suspects.

He said the suspects were detained at Ahero police station waiting to be arraigned before the court upon completion of investigations.

"The arrested suspects are going to act as an example for those who are fond of stealing equipment and other materials from our hospitals," he said.
