A Kitale businessman who in July shot a woman after allegedly mistaking her for fugitive police officer Caroline Kangongo has died.
Kennedy Muyundo, 58, was found dead at his Kiminini home in Trans Nzoia county.

His mother Florence Muyundo said her son, who was the proprietor of Iroko Hotels in Kitale town, died in his house.

“One of the hotel workers called me to ask about Kennedy who had not reported to his work place and was not picking calls,” she said.
When she visited his home, she found the doors to the main house locked from inside.

She alerted neighbours, and with assistance of workers, gained entry into the house after breaking one of the doors.

Drugs and juice
“I stumbled on the lifeless and half-naked body of my son on the floor of the bedroom,” recounted the devastated mother.

County Criminal Investigations Officer Francis Kihara said preliminary investigations indicated the man arrived at his compound about 12:30am on Tuesday.

“Assorted drugs and juice were recovered in the bedroom and will aid the investigation officers establish the possible cause of the death,” said Kihara.
His mother said Muyundo, who is married with three children, was staying alone at the time of his death.

“His wife is in the United States where she had taken their last born to stay with his sibling,” she revealed.

She said that her son had been ill for a while and was on medication.
“My son has been sick for some time. He first tested positive for Covid-19 before developing a blood clot,” she added.

Some witnesses said he was at a local club on Monday where he was in a jovial mood and bought drinks to patrons.

Muyondo was involved in a shooting incident in July in which he was accused of assaulting a woman whom he allegedly mistook for policewoman Kangogo, who was on the run after killing two men, one of whom was her colleague in Nakuru.

The officer was later found dead at her parents home in Elgeyo Marakwet. It is believed she committed suicide.

Muyundo was arrested and arraigned at Kitale Law Courts where he was released on a Sh200,000 cash bail after he denied charges of attempted murder before Chief Magistrate Julius Ng’arng’ar.
“Since the shooting my son has been experiencing a lot of stress,” his mother said.
