Treasury Cabinet Secretary Njuguna Ndung’u has appointed Humphrey Mulongo as the Commissioner General of the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).

In a gazette notice dated Tuesday, August 22, Ndung'u said Mulongo will serve as KRA boss for a period of three years. The appointment takes effect immediately.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 11 (1) of the Kenya Revenue Authority Act, 1995, the Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury and Economic Planning appoints— Humphrey Wattanga Mulongo to be the Commissioner General of Kenya Revenue Authority, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 22nd August, 2023,” the notice reads.

Mulongo takes over from Githii Mburu who resigned in February this year to "pursue personal interests".

KRA board had picked Rispah Simiyu to hold the position in an acting capacity pending substantive recruitment of a new head.

"The Board has today received the resignation letter of the Commissioner General FCPA Githii Mburu MGH, CBS who resigned to pursue personal interests. Following the resignation, the Board has appointed FCCA, CS Rispah Simiyu (Mrs), Advocate, EBS to be the Acting Commissioner General KRA with effect from 23rd February 2023 until the position is substantively and competitively filled. The Board appreciates Mr Mburu for the service he has rendered to KRA and the Republic of Kenya and wishes him very well in his future endeavours," KRA board stated in February.

The new KRA boss joins the agency from the Commission on Revenue Allocation (CRA), where he has been serving as vice chairperson.
