Residents of Mwembe Tayari, Sargoi area, in Mombasa were thrown into mourning yesterday morning after a man allegedly stabbed his wife to death before he surrendered to the police.

Samson Koome is reported to have stabbed his wife of 11 years, Caroline Kajeri, after they argued over her tendency to sleep on the couch instead of their marital bed.

The man is reported to have first attacked the woman, after she slept on the sofa before dragging her into their bed where he is alleged to have continued with the heinous attack.

Police reports show Koome had stabbed his wife several times after he allegedly picked an argument in the presence of their two children, who alerted the area village elder.

Mombasa County Police Commander Stephen Matu said the suspect had been arrested and was being  detained at Central Police Station. “He was arrested yesterday following the incident. He is being processed to be arraigned in court in connection to the murder, however, investigations and recording of statements from key witnesses and the suspect to establish what transpired is still ongoing,” he said.

The county police boss called on couples to find ways of resolving domestic rows amicably.

“We encourage those married, or those living together as couples to resolve matrimonial issues in a manner that will not lead to death. Let us find ways of dealing with issues in a peaceful way,” he said.
