Chama Cha Mashinani leader Isaac Ruto.

Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) party has stated that it ended its business in the National super alliance (NASA) after its mission was aborted, party leader Isaac Ruto has confirmed.

Ruto explained that NASA was created in the run-up to the 2017 General with its core agenda being to remove President Uhuru Kenyatta from his seat by winning the election but when it failed, they quit.

“There was no other program or business left for us thereafter we were defeated so we decided to leave and declared support for Jubilee, in fact, I went to Kapkatet stadium to welcome the President during the campaigns for the repeat of the election,” he said.

Ruto further stated that the move by the party was informed by top leaders splitting into factions, something he said was detrimental to the peace and unity in the country.

He stated that he even wrote a letter to NASA acknowledging that he was in support of the Jubilee administration and that as a party it was ready to work with it.

He pointed out that they also reached an agreement with the elected leaders in the party to work together with the elected governors in their counties.

The former Bomet Governor was speaking at a time parties in the NASA coalition announced their exit from the coalition.

The parties are Kalonzo Musyoka’s Wiper, ANC (Musalia Mudavadi), ODM (Raila Odinga) and Ford Kenya of Moses Wetangula.

While CCM has yet to come public about it, Ruto maintained they are no longer in NASA and that currently, they are formalizing their exit.

“CCM has not been in any coalition since 2017. If the registrar of political parties wants anything formal to that effect, we can draft a letter stating so,” the party leader said.

On the sharing of funds from the registrar of political parties among the NASA affiliate parties, Ruto termed it as strange noting that such funds ought to be shared equally.

“We mandated Kalonzo with that task of ensuring ODM shares the funds equitably, so he is the right man to answer,” he noted.
