Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi.

Senate Majority Chief Whip Kimani Wamatangi has said he consulted widely before joining Deputy President William Ruto.

Wamatangi said he talked to the people of Kiambu and his family members who told him to join UDA.

"Mr. Deputy President, I had to enjoy big cars and security as Majority Whip in the Senate. I'm now back," Wamatangi said.

Wamatangi took over the Whip position from Muranga Senator Irungu Kangata who fell out with President Uhuru Kenyatta after writing him a letter claiming BBI was unpopular in the region.

Wamatangi is vying for Kiambu governor seat in the August polls.

He will fight for the UDA ticket alongside former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu and Thika MP Jungle Wainaina.

Wamatangi becomes the third person to hold Majority Whip position in the Senate in Jubilee government's second term after Susan Kihika and Kangata.

His predecessors were axed for supporting DP Ruto.
