Murang'a governor Mwangi Wa Iria has maintained that he shall be in the presidential race come 2022 general elections.

Wa Iria said he is not ready to abandon his mission to vie for the top seat saying he is out to protect the interests of the people of Mt.Kenya.

Addressing the press in Ihura stadium on Tuesday, November 9, the governor also said he shall not be a running mate to any other presidential candidate.

Wa Iria argued that Mt Kenya being a vote-rich region he is ensuring he gets the majority of the votes which will win him the Presidency.

"I would not mind having either ODM leader Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka or Musalia Mudavadi as my running mate

"We have the numbers and this is what counts in elections and I am hopeful that I will capture a huge chunk of the votes here," he remarked.

The governor expressed his displeasure with the way other presidential candidates have been vote hunting in the region without recognizing him.

"There are people who have been coming to this region claiming that the residents have already agreed to support them are lying," he said.

"Mt. Kenya region has its owners and I won't sit back and watch a few individuals trample on us like we don't exist," he said.

Wa Iria said nothing bars anyone from the region from vying for the presidential seat as it has been insinuated by a few leaders.

"If people think that the Kikuyu community does not have a presidential candidate, I am here to remind them that I shall be contesting for the seat like the other candidates," he added.

The governor has been planning for a hiking expedition on Mount Kenya region come December where he intends to hoist his Usawa Kwa Wote party flag as well as the national flag.

This he says will be a symbolic expedition that he is out to fight for the interests of the people from the region.

The governor will be accompanied by his supporters and aspirants who intend to use his party to vie for various elective seats.

During the hiking expedition, Wa Iria is expected to hoist two flags at the spot where freedom fighter Kisoi Munyao raised the Kenyan flag in 1963.
