I won’t be sacked prematurely because I’m here to win, says Wazito’s tactician Kimanzi
Wazito FC new coach Francis Kimanzi is a man on a mission and is unperturbed by the club’s tinkering with coaches owing to poor results.
Among tacticians who have managed Wazito in the recent past include Frank Ouna, Melis Medo, Stewart Hall and Fred Ambani, who was the latest to be booted out of the team.
Kimanzi who was handed a four-year contract last week said that he hopes to achieve more than his predecessors and called on the players to give their all to make his work easy in the wealthy outfit as from from this weekend when Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League kicks off.
“ I won’t be cowed by previous sacking of coaches and all I want is 100 per cent input from the players and I believe the rest shall fall in place.
I won’t promise miracles but I want to leave Wazito better than I found it when my time to leave comes,”said Kimanzi during his unveiling at the team’s headquarters in Lavington, Nairobi yesterday.
The former Harambee Stars tactician who replaced Fred Ambani said he intends to stabilise the team and that his short term plan ais assisting the team to win up in the top five positions in the top tier league.
“Wazito is a big brand and it is only prudent that the team finishes the league in a respectable position.
I will not be in the team forever and would be the happiest man if I leave an indelible mark as head coach.
The talent is there and the upcoming Wazito Foundation will make my work easier by injecting into the senior team quality players.
We want to define what we want and above all, it is upon me to try and meet the targets of the team,’’ said Kimanzi who will be deputised by an equally experienced manager in John Kamau.
Wazito CEO Dennis Gicheru said the club settled on Kimanzi given his vast experience in local football.
‘Kimanzi has a record of interacting well with local players and it was only in order to enlist his services.
Among our ambitions is winning the KPL as well as being Kenya’s emissaries in continental events,” said Gicheru.
He further quashed the popular belief that the team has randomly ben sacking coaches and clarified that almost all who handled the team left by mutual consent.
