I’m being targeted over my political stand, Maangi declares
Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi has termed allegations of falsifying information in the self-declaration forms he submitted for 2017 General Election as unfounded.
The embattled deputy governor addressed the media after spending more than three hours at the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission offices in Nairobi.
Maangi, who was accompanied by his lawyer — South Mugirango Silvanus Osoro — said the allegation of falsifying information emanated from a traffic violation in the US.
He dismissed the claim as baseless, saying he will demand sufficient proof that he lied.
“It is true that I had a case in the US but the case was sorted out and I was cleared by Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission,” said Maangi.
“It is sad that when a day like today when are we should be celebrating ‘World- Anti-Corruption Day, our government has continued with the retrogressive behaviour of targeting those who subscribe to different political affiliations,” asked Osoro.
Maangi blamed the Kisii county government for his tribulations to cover up corruption allegations.
“I have challenged EACC to investigate these matters instead of wasting time in investigating me to divert attention from the rampant plunder and theft of public money in Kisii county,” said Maangi.
