Impala Floodlits action kicks-off
The much-awaited rugby 15s season opener tourney- the 38th edition of Impala Floodit tournament will be kicked off with two women and three schools category fixtures.
The Impala Club Grounds and RFUEA will host the competition set to be kicked off at 8am by women’s franchise action at Impala grounds while schools category will be set off by a renewal of rivalry pitting Lenana School and St Mary’s School at 9.30 followed by another women’s clash at 11.30.
Nairobi School and Sunshine will launch their title chase at RFUEA at 9.30am and later pave way for the last schools fixture between Muhuri Muchiri and Alliance.
Four varsity category fixtures will follow up next, last edition runners up USIU-A will be take on Swara at 12.50pm at Impala Club before shifting back to RFUEA to leave the arena for the big boys, clubs defending champions KCB will kick off title defence against Blak Blad.
At RFUEA, Strathmore University will play TUK, KCA will take on Catholic Monks while the Varisty Cupdefending champs Mean Machine will launch their title defence against Daystar Falcons at 4.10pm.
Fixtures pitting the clubs defending champs KCB and BlakBlad will be at 2.30pm at Impala club.
Second Edition
The first clubs quarter of the day will then be followed by a Ngong Road derby pitting Menengai Cream Homeboyz and Nondescripts at 4.10pm.
Hosting Impala Saracens will play the penultimate fixture against Menengai Oilers at 5.50pm while Kenya Harlequin will hope to make the October 5 cup semis cut past Top Fry Nakuru at 7.30pm.
The second edition of the rugby 15 aside Varsity cup enters the cup quarter-finals stage Saturday, defending champs University of Nairobi set to play newbies Cooperative University in the first match of the day.
Cooperative University impressively downed JKUAT in their first meeting at UoN Grounds to set a quarter-finals date with UoN at the Kenyatta University grounds.
Hosting KU will, however, be at the venue as spectators after their Daystar pulled out of the competition.
In the three quarter-finals matches to be played, TUM will play the first clash of the competition against Catholic Monks.
TUM was awarded a walkover last weekend after Zetech failed to show up but played a crucial friendly lost 21-3 to UoN.
UoE will play the last fixture against Dedan Kimathi University in a crucial match set to produce last season runners up already qualified opponent-KU.
The semis are slated for next weekend at Catholic University before the moment of truth slated for October 12 at UoN Grounds.
