Imposter’s cases to be consolidated
A Court yesterday ordered a criminal case against whistleblower Godwins Otieno Agutu, his personal assistant and a driver to be consolidated with another similar case.
The trio is charged with demanding and obtaining money by false pretences.
Agutu, Alex Mutua Mutuku and Ken Kimathi Gicovi, have pleaded not guilty to the charges before Milimani senior resident magistrate Daniel Ndungi.
When the case came up for mention yesterday, the prosecution informed the court that it wished to consolidate the case with a similar one, a request the magistrate granted and directed the case to be consolidated on October 19.
The prosecution alleges that on September 25, 2030 at Hitech shop located along Kombo road, the trio introduced themselves to Vijay Patel as officers from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), which action they knew was false.
The accused are said to have demanded from Patel Sh500,000 to assist him evade paying tax to the KRA.
Earlier, the prosecution, through Everlyne Onunga had told the court that accused had used a government vehicle, registration number GKB 700B belonging to the Judiciary.
Onunga told the court that police are still investigating judiciary officers who might have released the number plate to the accused persons.
The prosecutor urged the court to deny the accused bond and bail on grounds that they likely to interfere with witnesses who are mainly Agutu’s employees,
She further stated that witnesses have yet to record statements regarding the offence facing the three accused persons.
