Intensity of rain to subside this week, assures Met department
It is a sigh of relief for Kenyans especially in areas that have been experiencing flooding and landslides as the intensity of rain is expected to subside this week.
Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) said last evening parts of Central and Eastern Kenya will experience a break in the next three days, but the rains will continue in the institution’s observation towards the weekend.
Met’s deputy director in charge of Forecasting services Bernard Chanzu told People Daily the heavy rainfall that has been witnessed in Murang’ a and adjacent counties where floods and landslides have led to deaths and left a trail of property destruction is expected to clear up.
Chanzu, however, said the Western side of the country being counties in Nyanza and Western Kenya and Rift Valley, will continue receiving rainfall.
“This will continue to the end of the month,” he added. He said the presence of cyclones in the Western part of the Indian Ocean, several of them, is an indicator that the heavy rainfall, currently pounding many parts of the country, will start to subside considerably.
“It is a cyclone season which starts in November and ends in April. There are several of them in the Indian Ocean, but they have come at the right time, and this means that the skies will clear up,” he said.
“We, however, are still expecting significant rainfall amounts over southeast lowlands, much of the coastal region, highlands east of the Rift Valley as well as parts of western due to the resulting pressure gradient occasioned by these cyclones,” Kenya Met said on its website.
