Irungu Kang’ata: Expect more restructuring in the government
Senate Majority Whip Irungu Kang'ata has said more restructuring is expected in Parliament, Cabinet, and parastatals.
The Muranga's Senator said that the ongoing purge is aimed at weeding out non-performing leaders, and especially those linked to corruption scandals.
He said the restructuring is expected in three weeks' time as President Uhuru Kenyatta seeks to bring in new talent to deliver on his development agenda.
Speaking in Kigumo, Murang'a, the senator denied claims that the purge is targeting political allies of Deputy President William Ruto.
"We are simply doing away with people who are not working as they are supposed to," he remarked.
He also said that President Kenyatta is not a dictator as those affected by changes are claiming.
"We have a party constitution which clearly stipulates that leaders with any position in the government have to champion the success of its vision," he said.
"We are also looking for new people who will inject new ideas to enhance service delivery" he added.
Kang'ata also warned Cabinet Cecretaries, heads of parastatals and government agencies who have been squandering public money that their days are numbered.
"All public officers who have been under-performing shall be ejected from their offices as we go for a new political dispensation which seeks to deliver more to the people," he said.
The senator also said that the fate of the National Assembly's Majority Leader Aden Duale is in the hands of MPs.
"If Duale wins the confidence of the majority of MPs, he shall survive. If he doesn't, then he shall be ejected," Kang'ata said.
