Nyeri Deputy Governor Caroline Karugu has disclosed that her late mum left an exclusive message for Deputy President William Ruto before her demise.

Speaking during the burial of her mother, Jacinta Wanjiku Karugu, in Nyeri County, the Deputy Governor disclosed that her late mum was of the opinion that it was not yet the opportune moment for Deputy President to ascend to power.

"My mother had a message for Deputy President William Ruto; 'It is not yet your turn, it's Baba’s turn'," she said.

Karugu further professed her support for Raila Odinga's presidential bid, stating that the Azimio La Umoja movement is all-inclusive and has accommodated leaders from all corners of the country.

"When we say we support Azimio la Umoja it is because it is an umbrella that Baba has opened for all of us… All we are trying to do with Azimio la Umoja is give everybody room and space," she added.

The funeral service, that was graced by ODM Leader Raila Odinga, brought together pro-handshake leaders who avowed their support for the former premier.

Speaking at the event, Raila Odinga called on Kenyans to accord women the respect that befits them. The presidential hopeful also defended his style of politics that has often attracted criticism from his political opponents.

"If you don’t talk about history then you do not know where you are going. You must know where you came from, where you are and where you want to go.

"Don’t disrespect our women, our women must be treated with the respect they deserve. They are equal citizens of our country, they pay taxes like everybody else and have the ability to perform just like men," Raila stated.
