The Jubilee Party nominations for Kahawa Wendani ward which were cancelled last Tuesday, will now be held tomorrow.

Elijah Njoroge, the chairman Kiambu Jubilee County Assembly Caucus said the primaries were shelved to give the party time to prepare in compliance with Covid-19 protocols.

He said it had also emerged that the process was about to be hijacked by non-members and outside forces and the recently formed county party elections board is working on modalities to finalise the process.

The official said only voters in the IEBC register will be allowed to participate in the nomination and will be required to produce their national identification cards.

“Those who are not in the Kahawa Wendani IEBC register will not be allowed to vote,” said Njoroge who is also the Biashara Ward MCA in Ruiru.

Free and fair nominations

He called for calm and patience saying the party will ensure the exercise shall be conducted in a fair and transparent manner and that the exercise will be conducted between 7am and 4pm and results announced the same day.

At the same time, the official warned politicians against fueling violence during the Kahawa Wendani by-election and asked leaders from outside to keep off.

“We are particularly cautioning MCAs against meddling with the process.

There is no room for ‘a caretaker MCA’ as some have been calling themselves,” Njoroge said.

The seat fell vacant following the death of Cyrus Omondi who was the area Ward Rep elected on a Jubilee ticket. He died on February 12 while on official duty in India.

It has attracted 13 aspirants with nine of them eyeing the Jubilee ticket including a brother to the deceased, Kevin Ochieng, a Moi University procurement graduate.

Also seeking the Jubilee ticket are Rose Karimi who contested and lost to Omondi in the 2017 elections, businessman Samuel Mboshe, Margaret Wanjiku, Bernard Kariuki and John Gachoka.
