Judge Wanjala hospitalised in India over swine flu
Supreme Court judge Smokin Wanjala is hospitalised in India with swine flu.
Chief Justice David Maraga said Justice Wanjala has been admitted alongside six Indian Supreme Court judges over H1N1-Swine flu.
“Justice Smokin Wanjala, who is in India for a judicial conference, is hospitalised and is undergoing treatment for the H1N1-Swine flu which also affected six Indian Supreme Court judges.
The judge is making great progress and may be discharged today. Wish him speedy recovery,“ Justice Maraga wrote on his Twitter handle.
Justice Wanjala is admitted in the general ward at Apollo Hospital in India.
Latest reports from India indicate the country’s Chief of Justice, Sharad Arvind Bobde, has confirmed that a drive to vaccinate staff at the Supreme Court is in effect though it is not clear how the viral infection reached the judges.
A meeting was also held with Supreme Court Bar Association president Dushyant Dave.
Dave told journalists that the chief justice was very concerned and suggested that a dispensary for vaccination should be set up in the Supreme Court premises.
Symptoms of H1N1 swine flu are like regular flu symptoms and include fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose, body aches, headache, chills, and fatigue. Many people with swine flu have had diarrhea and vomiting.
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), a virus that binds deep in the lung can trigger potentially fatal pneumonia if the person infected mounts a strong inflammation in response to it.
Media reports indicated that the infection is believed to be spreading within the Supreme Court building in New Delhi.
