Suna East Member of Parliament Junet Mohamed has been re-elected for a third term in office.

The Azimio One Kenya coalition council secretary general was declared the winner by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) after garnering 26,516 votes in the election conducted on Tuesday, August 9.

Elias Okumu of the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) party came in a distant second with a measly 4,978 votes, while Patrick Odipo of the Movement for Democracy and Growth (MDG) finished third with 4,808 votes.

Former Migori county executive Elijah Odhiambo who vied for the seat on an independent party ticket came in fourth with 2,226 votes, followed by Samuel Amima (1,280) and Hassan Bashir (686).

Junet Mohamed key pillar in Azimio

Junet barely stepped in Suna East to popularise his bid as he traversed the country to campaign for Azimio coalition presidential candidate Raila Odinga and his running mate Martha Karua.

The Azimio luminary is regarded as one of the most loyal footsoldiers of the ODM party leader.
