Kabras slay champions KCB at home

Kenya Cup defending champions Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) will need to step up the title fight to avoid an impending revolution justified by round six memories headlined by a maiden rare win by Kabras over the title holders at the bankers den in Ruaraka.

The match cut shot by a mutual decision by the skippers to end the clash at 19-6 due to the wet and rainy conditions, has now left Kabras as the only unbeaten side after six rounds and an unpredictable future.

It was the first match Kabras failed to capture a winning bonus and without a returning leg between the two, Kabras is now the team to beat after humbling the title holder.

“Yes I think we have found the formula after nine losses, I was part of one of them last year but after the losing the cup finals we had the right formula idea and we worked on it and this win is something big for Kabras rugby and we talked about it last night and we were mentally prepared to win.

I have boys who really want to play and working with them away from South Africa is a pleasure,” Kabras coach Henley Du Plessis told the People Sports after the 19-6 win at Ruaraka.

 “We had a game plan, they wanted to put us under pressure but our game plan was also to put them under pressure also and play in their half and we played cleverly in their half, minimised on our mistakes and forced them into making mistakes in their own territory, so the territorial game plan worked as planned,” Plessis said.

Senaite Timoci spilled the ball in the scoring area having been played right into the scoring stance by Jone Kubu to fail to capture Kabras opener try to leave matters to Asuman Mugerwa for the first blood honors with a centre post try converted by Jone Kubu.

Home wins

Meanwhile, Hosting Nakuru and Menengai Oilers registered home wins after shocking Impala and Nondies respectively. 

Nakuru came from 3-20 behind at the interval to down Impala 30-20 whilst Nondies at Nakuru show ground got a 25-6 shocker by hosting Menengai Oilers. Homeboyz returned to winning ways after beating Blak Blad 32-22 to return to third spot surrendered by the Sarries after the upsetting loss to Nakuru.

Western Bulls registered a home 23-5 victory over Kisumu in the battle of the basement while Stanbic Mwamba wrapped up the round with a sweet 15-13 victory over Harlequins at RFUEA Grounds.
