The family of the late Changamwe MP Ramadhan Kajembe is mourning again following the death of his eldest daughter on Wednesday.

Langoni Kajembe, 46, passed on at the Pandya Hospital in Mombasa, two weeks after her father succumbed to Covid-19 at the same hospital, and a month after her mother’s demise.

Langoni, just like her father and mother, the late Aziza Kajembe, also succumbed to Covid-19 and was laid to rest at Kwa Shee Cemetery in Mikindani yesterday.

Family said she had tested positive for the virus late last month and was admitted at the facility where her parents were also admitted.

Family spokesperson Mbaruk Juma told People Daily that Langoni was admitted on July 28 after developing breathing complications.

She was tested for Covid-19 on July 29, and results turned out positive but after  15 days, doctors conducted the second test and declared her negative.

She returned to the hospital and was admitted in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after developing breathing difficulties and high blood pressure.

Langoni resided in Bamburi and was married to Hamisi Mwakizumo and were blessed with a son.

According to Juma, both the husband and his son were tested and declared Covid-19 free.

“It is a very big blow for the family to lose a very dedicated person. She was so humble and had demonstrated leadership traits,” said Juma.

She did not attend the burial of her father as she was already admitted in hospital.

At the time of her death, Langoni was a senior Kenya Ports Authority  employee in charge of the new Shimoni Port.

Sudi  Seif and Harun Kajembe, Langoni’s brothers, told People Daily that their sister was taken ill  after she collapsed on hearing about the death of her father on August 7.

“She was seriously affected by our dad’s death. Langoni and dad were close. So, when our parents died, she suffered great shock, which led to her hospitalisation,” said Harun.

 Veteran politician

She was buried next to her father in Mikindani. Langoni was the second child to the late Aziza Kajembe, the first wife of the veteran politician. She passed on in February this year.

She was buried in accordance with ministry of health Covid-19 guidelines even as the family insisted that she had not succumbed to the disease. Langoni was the only Kajembe kin in hospital at the time of her death.

Kajembe, a veteran of Mombasa politics, rose to prominence after defeating the late Kennedy Kiliku in 1997 for the Changamwe seat on a Kanu ticket.

His son, Seif Kajembe, who tried to succeed him as MP on an Orange Democratic Movement ticket died abroad in 2017.

Kajembe’s son-in-law, Badi Twalib, captured the seat on a Wiper Democratic Movement ticket.
