Police in Kangundo, Machakos County have arrested a man who was filmed whipping an elderly woman at a hotel in a video that has since gone viral.

"She caused trouble by making noise and she even beat one of our waiters," said the hotel management.

From reports and CCTV footage obtained from the hotel by People Daily, the woman had checked into the premises on Friday 10 am together with another man but the man left shortly after disagreements ensued between the two.

The woman also left the hotel and showed up shortly afterward but did not order any food, instead claimed the premises belongs to her, the hotel staff said.

The management called police from Kangundo on Friday to arrest the woman but the officers did not seize woman as she had calmed down by then.

The hotel claimed that the woman caused more disturbance prompting them to contact the police again, but they failed to show up.

According to the hotel management, the hotel again called the police after the woman created more disturbance but officers never showed up.

Next day

The woman left the premises later in the day but showed up again on Saturday where she continued causing more disturbance, according to the hotel staff.

"The man who had initially checked in with the woman also returned on Saturday morning in the company of another man," said hotel personnel.

The woman is said to have later joined uninvited a table of two men who had ordered food at the Inn, prompting the waiter to beat her up.

The video has since gone viral, with many Kenyans on social media angered by the waiter's violence against the woman.

Governor Mutua has vowed to take tough action against the hotel staff.
