Kanu party launches digital recruitment
The Kenya African National Union (KANU) Mt. Kenya Regional Chairman Njunge Mukirae has affirmed that the recently launched digital membership recruitment drive has gained momentum in the region.
He said that the process will guarantee tamper proof members' register that will see it conduct transparent nomination exercises ahead the 2022 General Elections.
Mukirae reiterated that Baringo senator Gideon Moi will be the party's presidential candidate.
The chairman said that the independence party is headed to the right direction as the country gears towards the next General Elections.
"The online recruitment will revamp and strengthen the party, complement the existing manual process and consolidate it's national support," he said.
Mukirae said that the process is in line with the Political Parties Act 2011 which stipulates that political parties should attain a certain threshold of members for it to be recognized.
The registration comprises the use of the USSD Code:*483*03# or a web portal, where members can easily create own accounts to receive updates from the party.
The party official who has since been appointed as the head of the Mt.Kenya Kanu regional political caucus by the party's Executive Director Joseph Towett will lead the exercise in 9 branches (counties) in the Central region, where the party was very unpopular during it's reign.
"Your terms of reference include but not limited to coordinate getting all the 9 branches to ensure memberships recruitment is rolled out successfully.
This is a monumental duty duty which requires your personal commitments and will involve your political skills in order to increase membership registration in all the categories as per the constitution," read the appointment letter.
He explained that the party has established various membership categories to make it affordable to all cadres of people interested in joining it.
"We have the Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze and Imara categories with Platinum whose rate is Ksh. 500,000 being set aside for the rich personalities in the party and Imara (Sh 100) for the ordinary people," he said.
Meanwhile, a section of members have urged the party National Chairman Gideon Moi to sanction the sale of some party assets.
"The cash the party will get from recruitment can hardly cater for it's affairs and the same will amount to dismal mobilization,' said Karanja Salina from Limuru.
Kanu has property worth millions of shillings across the country though some have since been fraudulently sold by unscrupulous party officials.
