The Kenya Bureau of Standards Standards (KEBS) has announced a 48-hour system downtime.

In a statement, the management said it will be undertaking system maintenance from Friday, August 4, 2023, to Sunday, August 6, 2023.

"We wish to inform our esteemed stakeholders that KEBS will be undertaking a system maintenance/ upgrade/ migration exercise to enhance efficiency on service delivery. In this regard, we have planned for a 48-hour system downtime from Friday, August 4th 2023, 23:00Hrs to Sunday, August 6th 2023, 20:00Hrs," the statement read in part.

During the indicated downtime period, the institution said that all its online services/systems will not be available.

"Therefore, all stakeholders with urgent transactions are requested to submit their documents before the scheduled downtime period. We apologize for the inconvenience that may be caused as a result of this exercise," KEBS said.

KEBS hacked

The upgrade comes weeks after hackers infiltrated the institution's network, paralysing all its operations including payment, operations, human resources and the internal mail system.

The hacking has affected important services such as KEBS Information Management System (KIMS), Permits Issuance, Webstore and Catalog used for standard purchases and the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), a software that allows the effective management of samples and data.

Other key services paralysed include sample test results, motor vehicle inspection details, Metlims Customer portal and Pre-Export Verification of Conformity (PVOC).
