Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki and Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika have put land grabbers on notice, saying the government will not tolerate theft of property meant for the establishment of public utilities.

Speaking separately in Nakuru county, the two described grabbers as dangerous terrorists out to deny Kenyans access to quality government services, saying land-grabbing has reached alarming levels in the country, with public utilities, including land parcels set aside for schools, hospitals, social halls and recreational facilities, as well as land belonging to squatters, being the main targets.

Kindiki who spoke while meeting the county security team at the County Commissioner’s offices on Tuesday warned public officers against aiding the theft of public land, saying the government will ensure they face the full force of the law.

“I want to put on notice all public officers including officers in the ministry of lands, survey, and those aiding land fraud, and forgery of title deeds are criminals just like any other and we will be very merciless with them,” said Kindiki.

At the same time speaking in Naivasha Sub-county, governor Kihika while on a development tour of the area said she will not give in to the pressure by grabbers and their defenders, saying the county being the custodian for public land will ensure all properties are secured and developed for the betterment of the residents.
