After the flood water subsided, the Kenya National Highways Authority (KenHA) has confirmed the re-opening of the Kamulu-Kangundo Road on Sunday, May 5, 2024.

The road was rendered impassable after the section at Joska was marooned by water amid the ongoing rainy season.

"The Kenya National Highways Authority is pleased to inform the public that Kannulu-Kangundo (B63) Road is now open.

"This follows the subsiding of the flood water at Joska, a section of the highway that was fully submerged after the heavy downpour," KenHA said in a statement.

KenHA said they are monitoring the situation at the Joska Athi-River Bridge.

The Joska Athi River Bridge is stable and not overtopping at present, although water levels remain high.

"The authority is closely monitoring the situation on the ground and is prepared to commence protection works as soon as practically possible," it added.

The motorists have, however, been urged to approach that section with extreme caution.

"The authority, however, appeals to motorists to approach this section with caution due to the ongoing rains that could lead to flooding.

"We remain committed to ensuring seamless connectivity to facilitate the safe passage of goods and services for economic prosperity.  At KeNHA, your safety is our utmost priority," it concluded.

Nakuru-Eldoret Road update

In another update, the Nakuru-Eldoret Road is now usable after the completion of remedial work at Timboroa.

"The Kenya National Highways Authority is pleased to inform the public that the Nakuru-Eldoret (A8) Highway is now open to traffic. This follows the completion of remedial works at Timboroa.  We extend our sincere appreciation for your patience and understanding during the closure period.

"The authority remains committed to ensuring seamless connectivity for the safe passage of goods and services, promoting economic prosperity. At KeNHA, your safety is our utmost priority," KenHA said.

The authority also delivered a cautious update on the situation along Ahero-Kisumu Road over the state of River Nyando.

"The Kenya National Highways Authority wishes to alert the public to exercise caution as they approach the River Nyando along the Ahero Kisumu (Al) Road, which has burst its banks and overtopped the River Nyando Bridge.

"The public is advised to exercise patience and follow directions from the police officers and traffic marshals manning the road. The safety of the public on our roads remains our utmost priority," it added.

The ongoing heavy downpours continue to wreak havoc, rendering many roads impassable and leading to the destruction of infrastructure in other instances.
