The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced the reopening of the Nakuru-Eldoret (A8) highway following successful repairs at Timboroa.

The road had been closed since May 2 due to severe flood damage that compromised the structural integrity of a section of the roadway, posing a risk of collapse.

KeNHA repairs

The repairs were completed on schedule, allowing the highway to reopen and resume normal traffic flow.

In a statement, KeNHA Director General Kung'u Ndung'u expressed gratitude to the public for their patience during the closure and reiterated the authority's commitment to ensuring safe and reliable road networks.

"The Kenya National Highways Authority is pleased to inform the public that the Nakuru-Eldoret (A8) highway is now open to traffic. This follows the completion of remedial works at Timboroa," the statement by Ndung'u read.

"We extend our sincere appreciation for your patience and understanding during the closure period. The Authority remains committed to ensuring seamless connectivity for the safe passage of goods and services, promoting economic prosperity. At KeNHA, your safety is our utmost priority," the statement concluded.

The reopening of the Nakuru-Eldoret highway is a significant development, as it is a major transportation route for goods and passengers in the region.

The road closure had caused disruptions, affecting both local businesses and long-distance travel.

KeNHA closures

Due to ongoing heavy rains, several other roads across Kenya have also experienced temporary closures.

Earlier this week, KeNHA announced the temporary closure of the Thika Superhighway at the Kahawa Sukari drift due to flooding from overnight heavy rainfall.

The Laisamis-South Horr Road was also closed temporarily this week after a washout occurred in one section. Additionally, the Mai Mahiu road experienced disruptions due to flood damage.
