Former marathoner Tegla Lorupe and ex-Kenya 7s captain Humphrey Kayange have been appointed to the board of the Kenya Academy of Sports Council.

The two were appointed on Friday, September 24 by the Ministry of Sports, Culture, and Heritage CS Amina Mohammed joining Paul Tergat who is the Chairperson of the Council.

In 2018 ANC nominated Member of Parliament Godfrey Osotsi sponsored a bill that required the government through the ministry of sports to establish a sports academy in every constituency.

From the Osotsi bill, the Sports Academies will be key avenues in sporting, nurturing, and identifying talent at the grassroots level.

The Parliamentary Committee on the establishment of the Sports Academies chaired by Narok North Member of Parliament Moitalel ole Kenta in a report to the National Assembly proposed that the Ministry of Sports and Heritage trains sports professionals as one of the ways through which to impart soft skills in preparation for the construction of the facilities.

The committee also proposed that the ministry of education teams up with the sports docket to enhance sports facilities in schools and colleges.
