Kenya COVID-19 Emergency Fund receives Sh1.29 billion
A total of Sh1.289 billion has been donated by corporate, foundations, religious institutions towards Kenya Covid 19 Emergency Fund to assist in the fight against coronavirus
President Uhuru Kenyatta established the COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund on April 1, 2020 with the view to mobilise resources that can used to stop the spread and impact of the pandemic.
A statement from the funds chairperson, Ms Jane Karuku, disclosed that COVID-19 has raised cash amounting Sh917.8 million and also material support such as food and non-food items worth Sh370.3 million
Funds and other donations continue to be received and this will be updated in due course.
Ms Karuku said the board seeks to reaffirm that the donations will be utilised to support the government’s efforts in the supply of medical facilities and equipment and support for vulnerable communities.
She said the board would like to express its deepest gratitude for the support and goodwill that the fund continues to receive from Kenyans from all walks of life.
We would like to encourage more Kenyans to donate to the fund as we all work together to overcome this challenge.
Among the organisations and institutions which have contributed include Safaricom Sh200 million, KCB Sh150 million, National Treasury Sh150 million, Cooperative Bank Sh100 million, NCBA Sh100 million and ABSA Bank Sh50 million
Other who have also made their contributions include First Chartered Securities Sh25 million, Citi Bank Kenya Sh21.300 million, Devki Group Sh20 million, UBA Bank Sh15 million, Kenya Civil Aviation Sh15 million, BAT Kenya Sh10.6 million, Chandaria Foundation Sh10 million, Eco Bank Sh10 million, Sanlam Investments East Africa Ltd Sh8 million and WPP Scangroup Limited Sh5 million.
