Deputy President William Ruto and his Kenya Kwanza Alliance team yesterday stormed Kanu chairman Gideon Moi’s Baringo County backyard as they moved to strengthen their grip on the region.

Ruto, who attended a church service at AIC  Kapropita, Baringo Central sub-county, in the company of Amani National Alliance (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi and Ford Kenya’s Moses Wetang’ula, sought to assure minority communities in the region that their welfare would be catered for should he win the August election.

He said he was the brains behind the setting up of a minority and marginalised group’s department under his office headed by Amos Olempaka from the Ilchamus community.

“We will also set up a commission to address issues of minorities. We want them to be catered for in all the affairs,” the DP said at Ilng’arua in Baringo South sub-county.

“We want minority groups to be part of the decision making in this country,” added the DP.

Runaway banditry

He said that should they be elected, they will ensure inclusivity and regional balancing in all sectors.

“We will ensure respect of the Constitution so that minority groups can take their place on the decision making table, “said the DP who also promised to tackle runaway banditry in the region.

He faulted the removal of National Police Reservists (NPR) in the region which he said had exposed residents to armed bandits. “It will be our priority as Kenya Kwanza to address factors fueling insecurity including poverty and land disputes. That’s how we will eliminate insecurity  because it’s fueled by poverty and food insecurity,” said the DP.

This was the second time in a month the DP and his Kenya Kwanza Alliance team were touring Senator Moi’s backyard after holding another rally  in Eldama Ravine.

Senator Moi has been engaged in a protracted battle of supremacy with the DP for the control of Rift Valley politics with Baringo county expected to be a battleground county.

Mudavadi said their team is a formidable one which he said stood a better chance of clinching the presidency in the next election.
