Kenya Power Embu branch has once again written to the County Government of Embu demanding payment of electricity debt amounting to Ksh15.3 million.

In a letter dated January 10, 2022, the power distributor said it had first written to the county government on November 5, 2021, to have the debt cleared by November 15, 2021, but it failed to owner their demands.

Kenya Power is now threatening to disconnect electricity in all health facilities.

"We want to bring to your attention that we have not received any payment towards the electricity debt which currently stands at Ksh15,301,963.89 being outstanding bills for the Embu county public health facilities accounts as of January 10, 2022," the letter read in part.

The letter, signed by Kenya Power Business Manager - Embu branch Eng. Vincent Okello indicated that if the county fails to settle the bill two days after receiving the letter, the power will be disconnected in all health facilities.

"We hereby request you to facilitate the settlement of this debt within the next two days from receipt of this letter to ensure uninterrupted power supply to your installations.

"Please note that we shall interrupt supply on January 13, 2022, without further reference in case you fail to make payment as requested."

The letter comes barely two days after Embu Deputy Governor David Kariuki, who was acting as county CEC in charge of health docket, resigned accusing the governor of failing to support him to deliver better health services in the county.

Kariuki said he was not comfortable with how things were in the docket that receives a lion's share in the budget.

One day after his resignation, Governor Martin Wambora appointed public service chief officer John Mukundi as the acting CEC for health.
