The Government of Kenya has suspended all flights to and from Somalia.

Kenya Civil Aviation Authority Director General Captain Gilbert Kibe told the press that the directive is an order they are implementing.

He did not, however, disclose details of who gave the orders and why.

This comes a week after Somalia resolved to resume diplomatic relations with Kenya and to end the maritime conflict.

In a statement released by the Federal Republic of Somalia, the move was necessitated by the need to enhance relations between the two nations.

"The Federal Government of Somalia announces that in keeping with the interests of good neighbourliness, it has resumed diplomatic relations with the Republic of Kenya," the statement read in part.

The restoration of diplomatic relations with Kenya was brokered by Qatar led by Emir Sheikh Tamim Al Thani.

The ban on flights by Kenya raises eyebrows at the gains announced last week as relations between the two countries continue to deteriorate.
